What’s the difference between data destruction and data erasure?

Data destruction is the physical shredding or dismantling of a data-bearing device so that the data can never be recovered. Data erasure, on the other hand, uses certified software to overwrite data to a standard that meets regulatory requirements — allowing the device to be reused or resold. At Astralis, we use industry leading software to perform NIST-compliant erasure and provide verifiable audit reports. If erasure isn’t possible or fails, we move the device immediately to physical destruction.

We assess all incoming equipment for redeployment or resale potential, securely erase the data, and remarket the items via trusted channels.
